These birds were my constant companions on early morning walks on the beaches of Sanibel.

After 40+ years of seeing the sun rise over the Atlantic, it seemed odd to see it rise from behind the dunes at the Gulf of Mexico.

I used both brush and palette knife on this one.  I like the contrast of texture achieved in this way.

The birds ignored me and my camera, knowing they could move much faster then I can.

Tropical Fish Painting, Florida Wildlife Painting, Palette Knife Painting.

I do know I am enjoying these palette knife paintings immensely.  I have been so intense about my brush work, that I had ignored the palette knife for months.  Now that I am working with it again, I am enjoying the freedom it brings.

You Otter Love this Guy!, Wildlife Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, SOLD

 

Otters are one of those cute little animals that we all love to feel have human characteristics.  The way they float on their backs, using their bellies for  a table.  I once read they link paws when they sleep, so they will not float away from each other.

Have you ever tried to photograph wildlife?  I have, and consider it an exercise in frustration.  Many blurred images later, my friend and photographer, Ted Fuhrer, offered me the use of his images.  Thanks so much, Ted.

This little guy looks very inquisitive and ready to bolt at the least movement.

  I enjoyed experimenting with painting his fur and directing the viewer's eye.  The animal is much the same color as the background in this scene.
