Florida Wildlife Egret Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting,
One of the joys, of living in Florida, was the abundant wildlife. It was thrilling to view these majestic birds, almost daily, from my window.

Daily Paintings, Small Oil Paintings, Animal and Bird Paintings
I was looking at some of my images and was really surprised to see how many bird and animal paintings I have done. I thought today would be a good day to post a few of my old time favorites.
It is always interesting and educational to review the painting journey that you have been on. I like to line up older paintings, chronologically, which helps me to see the improvements I have made and the ones I would like to make in the future. Always an interesting exercise.
Have a painterly day and thanks for visiting!

Gone to the Dogs! Puppy Portrait, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Pet Portrait
My niece Kayla, asked me to paint a small portrait of her dog. It reminded me of all the dog portraits I did, when I first started painting.
People have such an emotional connection with their pets.
I enjoy the personality that show in pictures of dogs and I strive to capture that quality in my paintings.
Some of my favorites...
Have a happy day!

Sometime ago, I visited Key Largo, which inspired a series of paintings, I called my Coral Reef Series. One of favorites of the series is called "Angels on Parade".
My client, who purchased this painting, also commissioned a companion piece. Below is the second painting.
The client was very pleased with the pair of artworks.

Swan Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "Swan Reflections" by Carol Schiff, 16x20x.75 Oil
On most mornings, I take a walk around the neighborhood. Everyday, I would pass this beautiful creature and his mate, gliding across the water of a small pond. When I saw the photograph I was able to take, I knew I would want to paint it.
I painted with brush and palette knife and was able to obtain a nicely textured surface to indicate the water.
The background, which was difficult to photograph correctly, is a mixture of a rich brown and a greenish dark.

Sky Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil Painting
An early morning beach photo shoot was the inspiration for this piece. Thank you to Pat Garvey for sharing his image with me.
One of the biggest problems of selling art online, is representing your art with correct colors. I didn't realize how big a problem this would be.
I tried for over an hour to edit this piece correctly, and was only partially successful. Blues seem to be the colors that always give me problems in my photography.
The image above is washed out compared to the actual piece, which is sitting here next to me. My problem was trying to get the blue gray on the lower right corner to read correctly...which is right on with my monitor. But that means I have lost some beautiful warm rust and mauve hues in the dark cloud.
In this detail, the mauves and orangey rust shades are correct, but the blue on the right side is way too strong. Also the pale yellows are not warm enough. What to do? I have no answers.
Even if I am able to get the colors correct on my monitor, they may not be what you are seeing on your monitor.
So I do my best to represent what I see and offer my customers a full refund if they are unhappy.
I think most buyers understand this issue as fortunately, I have not had a painting returned in almost 10 years.
If any of you have a solution, I would love to hear it.
After writing this post, I tried again to edit my image, and finally have settled on this as the best representation of the painting. It is better, but still does not reflect all the color variations.
Thanks for reading my blog today.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Wildlife Painting, Bird Art, 6x8" Robin in Oil, SOLD
When I was a kid growing up in northern Ohio, I always anxiously awaited the return of robins, knowing winter was gone when they came. I wondered where they spent the winters....now I know....North Carolina!
Well, anyway, that is where this bird spent the winter and where my photographer friend, Ted Fuhrer snapped an image of him. Thanks for allowing me to use it, Ted.
I really like this in a chunky black frame!
Thanks for reading my blog today. I hope you see a robin in your tree.

Pet Portrait, Daily Painting, "A Face to Die For" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil
Years ago, I collected commissions for pet portraits. Eventually, I tired of painting from what were usually very bad images and drifted in other directions. Every once in a while, I will see a puppy or kitten that I want to paint.....like this one.
I couldn't resist that little face, or, the sunlight that was pouring in behind.

Daily Painting, Wildlife Art, "Mountain Ducky" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil SOLD
This daily painting is a happy little duck I found in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. It was a hot summer day and the colors of the water reflected a gorgeous blue sky.
Some days, I love working with a palette knife and smearing lots of thick paint around and this was one of those days. It is just so satisfying ....kind of like baking bread!
Thank you for viewing my daily painting and if you like it.....I hope you will pin it!

Wildlife Print, Otter Print, Otter Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting
Otters are one of those cute little animals that we all love to feel have human characteristics. The way they float on their backs, using their bellies for a table. I once read they link paws when they sleep, so they will not float away from each other.

It will come to you ready to hang. The print extends around the sides of the canvas, no frame is required.
