Beach Oil Painting, Seagull and Surf Art, Coastal Home Decor, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painter

I have run from the snowy mountains, to the beaches of Florida.  Lucky me, I can walk on the beach, and work at the same time.

Purchase Here
I photoed this guy, during my morning walk and painted soon after.

The birds are so conditioned to people, they barely move when you approach.  In the morning, it is all business, as they are looking for food.

We are enjoying our Florida winter on the beach.  Being a snowbird is a good thing!

Farmhouse Wall Decor, Cow Portrait Painting on Linen, Daily Painting

A client wanted a cow painting, for licensing purposes.  I usually do daily painting of still life or landscape, but I have to admit I enjoyed both the horse, they originally chose,  and this cow painting.

I painted on Senso linen canvas.  I had a pad of the linen around for several years but didn't really know what to do with it.  I found it had a different texture than the cotton canvas I usually paint on, but once I got into the painting, it was fine.

My next problem was what to do with this unstretched painting.  After surveying several friends, I mounted it on a cradled wood panel.  I was told the perfect glue to use is YES GLUE available at craft stores.  I had some in my stash and I have to say it worked like a charm.  Then I trimmed the edges with a exacto knife and it turned out perfectly.  Now I can use the rest of my Senso linen canvas with no fear!

So, today I stretched my limits, both with the Senso canvas and the cow painting, and luckily both worked out for me!

This is a re-post, and the cow has been sold.  However, if you are interested, giclee prints are available on canvas and wood planks, in the size of your choice.  Check it out on my Etsy site at the link below

My art on Disney Channel, Otter painting, Animal Artwork, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

I am please to announce that Disney Channel has purchased this artwork, as set design to be used on their hit show "Coop and Cami Ask the World.

Otters are one of those cute little animals that we all love to feel have human characteristics.  The way they float on their backs, using their bellies for  a table.  I once read they link paws when they sleep, so they will not float away from each other.  I wonder if they still do that, in these days of COVID and social distancing.

It will come to you ready to hang.  The print extends around the sides of the canvas, no frame is required.

Three baby birds, ready to take the big leap!

It has been awhile since I have painted on a regular schedule.

Maybe, just like the baby birds, we need to take a leap of faith before we can soar.

His bill will hold more than his belly can.

He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week.........

But I'm damned if I see how the hell he can!
Unknown

That is a little poem from my childhood days.  I lived in Ohio, my grandparents in Florida.  My grandmother had a postcard of a pelican that included that poem.  Florida seemed like a magical place to me then, and the poem stayed with me through the years.

Join me tomorrow for more of Pelican Week!

Daily Oil Painting, Birds, "Waverunners" 12x12" SOLD

These birds were my constant companions on early morning walks on the beaches of Sanibel.

SOLD

After 40+ years of seeing the sun rise over the Atlantic, it seemed odd to see it rise from behind the dunes at the Gulf of Mexico.

I used both brush and palette knife on this one.  I like the contrast of texture achieved in this way.

The birds ignored me and my camera, knowing they could move much faster then I can.

Tropical Fish Painting, Florida Wildlife Painting, Palette Knife Painting.

This is another fish painting from my coral reef series.  Are you bored with this series yet?  I still have a few to post before moving on to another subject.

purchase here
Another fish painting.  Don't ask what kind of fish it is, I don't know.

I do know I am enjoying these palette knife paintings immensely.  I have been so intense about my brush work, that I had ignored the palette knife for months.  Now that I am working with it again, I am enjoying the freedom it brings.

Grey Squirrel Wildlife Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, SOLD

Have you ever tried to photograph wildlife?  I have, and consider it an exercise in frustration.  Many blurred images later, my friend and photographer, Ted Fuhrer, offered me the use of his images.  Thanks so much, Ted.

SOLD
This little guy looks very inquisitive and ready to bolt at the least movement.

I enjoyed experimenting with painting his fur and directing the viewer's eye.  The animal is much the same color as the background in this scene.

I put it in one of my black frames.  They seem to work perfectly for just about any painting.

Happy day to you!

Snowy White Egret Painting, Daily Painting, Coastal Home Decor, Beach House Art, Small Oil Painting

We are very lucky to live close to one of the best "birding" areas in the US.  Viera Wetlands, here in Brevard County is well knowing in "birding circles" and each year, thousands of birders descend on us.

SOLD

I find it impossible to get accurate colors on a painting that has a variety of blues.  The image above is a scan of the actual painting, with very accurate color.

After taking 5-6 photos, in different lighting, this is the best I could do with a camera.  As you can see, the colors are harsh and inaccurate.  This image has been photo shopped to the best of my abilities.

Why do I care about photos?  Why not just scan them?

Much of my work is licensed and the scan does not make a large enough file for me to send to my licensee. For that reason, I continue to try to find a way to take a decent photo!  If any of you have an answer for me, I would appreciate the help!

Small Oil Painting, Coastal Home Decor, Beach House Painting, Bird Painting

I love color, especially all the luscious paint colors available. I decided to shake things up a bit.  I painted with a limited palette of only one red, one blue, one yellow and white.  This was rather confining for me.  To make it even a little more difficult, I chose to paint a scene without much color of any type.

SOLD
I was pleasantly surprised by the beautifully harmonious results.  The color, in this piece is very subtle, but none the less, I enjoy it!

Jonathan Livingston Seagull lives on!

I will be trying this technique again!

Dog Painting, Pet Portrait, Ruby's Nap, Paint your dog

Well, here I am posting another dog portrait.  There is good reason for that.  I have been working on several commissions for the same gentleman.  He loves his dogs and wanted oils of them.

This is Ruby, enjoying a little shut eye on the porch.  We all love to do that, right?

I loved this image and had a great time painting it.

Wildlife Painting, Alligator Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Original Art

These guys are not uncommon sights in Florida.  Sometimes you see them snoozing in the sun next to a road.  Golfer's here usually have a scary encounter to tell.

SOLD
This was my third attempt to paint this fellow.  I had difficulty getting the drawing correct, as well as the color.  The image I worked from was not exciting. Eventually, I think I worked it out.

Go gators!

Daily Painting, Birds, "Pelican Patrol" 6x18" sold

You may notice that these are not your everyday type of pelicans.  Most pelicans are brown and gray and kind of dull, unless they are a breeding male, their heads turn yellow during breeding season.

sold

These beautiful birds, are larger, and a little on the rare side.  I found these in Sebastian, Florida where a large colony lives.

I think they are much more attractive with their brightly colored orange beaks and feet.  They seem to get along just fine with the brown guys.
