"Blue Heron" 12x12", SOLD
This is my third time painting this scene and each painting is very different than the others. My latest effort is here:
It is very interesting to see which direction you painting goes over the years. I recently read about a man who took a photo of his daughter every week of her life. Now he has a unique record. I think I will take a cue from him and paint this again in a few years.
SOLD |
Painted with a palette knife and a technique I have developed which i like to call Color Weaving. It gives lots of texture to the painting.
SOLD |
The second effort was several years ago, a small 5x7" in a vaguely abstract style.
The first time I painted this bird was many years ago in pastel....................

Dog Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Golden Retreiver Portrait, 8x8x1.5" Oil by Carol Schiff
When I first started painting I did a lot of dog portraits for clients. Slowly, I moved into other subjects, but every once in a while, I get the urge to paint a cute canine.
I quickly painted three unique, special puppies, before the urge passed. This is Oscar.
Now, that the hectic holidays are over, it feels good to get back to my daily rountine.
I love the feel of a brand new year, that same feeling I get when I put on a new dress for the first time. It stretches ahead of me with endless possibilities. My goals this year are to concentrate more on quality and less on quanity, so posts may be fewer and farther apart.
What are your art goals for the beautiful year ahead?
Thanks you for reading my blog today.

Teapot Lamps, teacup lamp, repurposed lamp, home decor, lighting, shabby chic decor, Throwing a little light on the subject.......
In the past few months, I started a new little project, which I wanted to share with you today. Hope you enjoy them.
I am making lamps from new and vintage teapots, cups and saucers.
Each one is unique and one of a kind. They will never be duplicated.
This is actually a family project with my husband, my sone and my daughter-in-law. Family makes it special and all the more fun.
This is our display, ready to go in a local vintage store.
I have shown you just a sampling of the adorable one of a kind lamps . To view them all click here:
As special as these are, we can make them even more special, by making a lamp just for you. If you have a few pieces of your wedding china, or maybe your grandmother's, or just something you love, we can make a custom lamp just for you. Contact me through this blog, or my Etsy store.
Have a fun day today!

Horse Portrait, "Big Red" 6x8" Oi, SOLD
I have been trying to expand my horizons by painting new subject matter. This is my second horse painting.
I have to say I did enjoy the challenge. He looked so spirited and I got excited about his red coat against a green background.
It's always fun to stretch a little, try something new. I would like to do more of these, but I think my biggest challenge will be getting interesting reference images to work from. We have plenty of horses in our neighborhood, but they usually run to the other end of the pasture when they see me approach with my trusty camera.
Do you have any special techniques for getting images of animals?

Daily Painting, Seagull Painting, "The Three Stooges" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Oil, SOLD
The three birds in today's daily painting look a little goofy to me. Maybe they are hungry, or maybe they are plotting against another, but I just don't trust them.
They remind me of my childhood and the notorious "Three Stooges", Larry, Moe and Curly.
You remember them don't you? They were always getting into trouble.
They are looking at a fourth seagull....not in this painting, and I don't think it is in a friendly manner! I hope to do a second painting of this group, including the fourth member.
The reference photo was shared from Shelley Smart at her wonderful blog here. Shelley is a fantastic photographer and generous too. She gave me permission to use her image years ago. I hope you will visit her interesting blog, "A Year at the Beach", where she recorded the activity on the beach every day.

Horse Portrait, "The Mare" 6x8" Daily Painting SOLD
Our neighborhood is not really rural, but we do have horses living in the area.
This one is very friendly and often comes over to greet me as I walk by her pasture. She was even kind enough to pose for a photo.
I am always looking for new subject matter, so I decided to give horses a try. This is my first attempt. Since, I have done one more. I enjoyed painting them, but do have a difficult time getting interesting photos of them. Sometimes, I think becoming a photographer is a prerequisite to becoming an artist. Some would say the trick is to sketch, sketch, sketch to know your subject well and paint from your sketches. A valid point, but I prefer to use my limited time painting, so, I look to all the advantages modern technology has given us to work with.

OTTER,6X8, OIL, SOLD
Don't you think otters are just the cutest things on earth? I love the way they swim on their backs. The only thing I don't love is when they catch the baby ducks and chow down...but that is nature!
I have been out of town the last week or so. I want to thank everyone who was so kind to review my blog each day and especially those of you who left such nice comments. I am really behind the eight ball at the moment with lots of projects to check off the list, so I probably won't get around to replying to each one of you individually, but I want you to know how important you are to me. I take great pride in your comments and appreciate all the specifics you mention. It helps me have insight into how my work appears to others. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope to get back to my daily browsing of your sites soon.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Wildlife Painting, Bird Art, 6x8" Robin in Oil, SOLD
When I was a kid growing up in northern Ohio, I always anxiously awaited the return of robins, knowing winter was gone when they came. I wondered where they spent the winters....now I know....North Carolina!
Well, anyway, that is where this bird spent the winter and where my photographer friend, Ted Fuhrer snapped an image of him. Thanks for allowing me to use it, Ted.
I really like this in a chunky black frame!
Thanks for reading my blog today. I hope you see a robin in your tree.

Giclee Print on Sale, Wildlife Art Print, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Playful Otter" by Carol Schiff, 12x16x.75" Art Print
Otters are one of those cute little animals that we all love to feel have human characteristics. The way they float on their backs, using their bellies for a table. I once read they link paws when they sleep, so they will not float away from each other.

Dog Portrait, Daily Painting, "Ruby's Nap". 16x20x1.5 Oil on Canvas, SOLD
Well, here I am posting another dog portrait. There is good reason for that. I have been working on several commissions for the same gentleman. He loves his dogs and wanted oils of them.
This is Ruby, enjoying a little shut eye on the porch. We all love to do that, right?
I loved this image and had a great time painting it.
Have a great day today and thanks for readking my blog.!

VintageTeacup and Teapot Stacked Lamps, teacup lamp, teapot lamp, accent lamp, shabby chic lamp
You came here today, expecting an art blog, but I hope you will bear with me as I show you my newest project.
Isn't this adorable?
Each lamp is made of vintage and new (mostly vintage) teacups and teapots. I track them down, where ever I go.
I have so much fun finding the perfect elements for each lamp. When I am happy with the just the right cups and saucers and teapot , I turn it over to my hubby who carefully drills holes in each piece and wires the lamp with brand new electrical parts. He spent weeks perfecting the electrical components design for safety and durability.
Of course, each one we finish becomes my favorite. I want to keep them all, but I promised hubby that would not happen.
This would be such a unique gift for that very special person on your gift list (or you).
Each lamp is one of a kind. If you see one that is perfect for you, buy it now, because when it's gone, it's gone forever.
We are happy to make a special lamp for you. Maybe you have some of grandmother's china, or your wedding china, that is closed away in a closet. How nice it would be to see it sitting out every day. Send me a comment if you are interested in a very special "memory lamp" just for you.
Thanks for viewing my blog today.
